Sentence Patterns using "There is no way..."

We use this expression when we are surprised or we do not believe something.

There is no way (that) + sentence

We can use this expression when we are surprised by something that we saw, heard, or that happened in the past.
  • There is no way that she quit her job.
  • There is no way that they said that.
  • There is no way she failed the test. She is the best student.
  • There is no way she lied to me. She is my best friend.
  • There is no way that he just did that. Amazing!
  • There is no way that you said that to your boss! You are crazy!
We can use this expression to say that we do not believe something we just heard. We think something is a lie or untrue. This is pretty much the same as showing surprise.
  • There is no way that you can eat 100 hot dogs in an hour.
  • There is no way that they are getting divorced.
  • There is no way that you did that. You are lying.
  • There is no way that that story is true.
  • There is no way he can lift a car.
We can use this expression to say that we think something will definitely not happen in the future. We think it is impossible.
  • There is no way that Brazil will lose to America at the World Cup.
  • There is no way that she will actually quit her job.
  • There is no way it will happen.
  • There is no way that we are going to win the lottery.
  • There is no way that people are going to believe that.
We can use any verb tense in the second part of this pattern.
  • There is no way that she is single.
  • There is no way that they didn't know that.
  • There is no way that he will come.
  • There is no way that it is happening right now.
  • There is no way that he has been sleeping for 24 hours.
  • There is no way that he had been sleeping when it happened.
Bonus Tips and Points

1. We can use "There was no way..." to talk about something that was impossible to do in the past. If we do this, then the second part also needs to be in the past tense.
  • There was no way that we could stop it.
There was no way + infinitive...

This has the same meaning as "It was impossible + infinitive...".
  • There was no way to avoid the accident.
  • There was no way to stop her from leaving.
  • There was no way to know that.
  • There was no way to get there on time.
  • There was no way to let her know.
  • There was no way to avoid it.
2. We can respond to what another person says with a short response. It is the same as saying, "That is impossible" or "I don't believe that".

A) I saw a ghost last night.
B) There is no way.

A) She is in love with me.
B) There is no way.

B) There is no way that is true. They are a great couple.

A) He will quit his job.
B) There is no way he is quitting. He loves his work.
